US ranks 30th in countries to "be a mother and have a baby"

--->ooook... yes, but what are the solutions?  It's not for a lack of resources, technology, antibiotics, vaccines... etc etc. 30th is pretty flippin terrible when we spend by far more money and resources on health care and maternal/pre natal/ infant care.  The answers are out there, and much easier to achieve than you would ever expect!

Chiropractic

"The Principles of Chiropractic should be known and utilized in the growth of the infant and continue as a safeguard throughout life."  --DD Palmer (1910)
  • Nothing has changed!!

Where Chiropractic Fits in the story of pregnancy and birth:

Chiropractors do NOT treat symptoms or 'cure' anything, of any kind. They do not flip babies, release uterine tension, cure colic, cure ear infections, cure .... anything.  Chiropractors abide to the everlasting principle that every individual has an innate innteligence that created the body, and maintains the body's ability to adapt and function; to heal and thrive from within, which can be affected by allowing the body to express this incredible, untouchable, incomprehensible potential.

In the mother: • Prepares the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth by creating a state of balance in pelvic bony structures, muscles and ligaments.
• Removes torsion of the ligaments that support the uterus thus potentially reducing aberrant tension to the woman’s uterus.
 • Reduces interference to the mother’s vital nerve system which controls and co-ordinates all of her systems and functions.
• By improving maternal function we are decreasing the potential for unnecessary intervention.
To the infant: • Reduces interference to the mother’s nerve system allowing for better baby development.
• Pelvic balance allows the baby greater room to develop without restrictions to its forming cranium, spine and other skeletal structures
. • Offers the baby the room to move into the best possible position for birth.
 • With proper fetal positioning, there is a significant decrease in dystocia and the resulting birth trauma caused by intervention.

lGray’s Anatomy

During pregnancy the pelvic joints and ligaments are relaxed and capable of more extensive movement. This relationship renders the locking mechanism of the sacroiliac joint less restrictive and permits greater rotation. This change allows alterations in the diameter of the pelvis at childbirth. The less the locking mechanism, the more strain of weight bearing falls on the ligaments leading to SI joint strain. After childbirth, the ligaments become tightened up but in some cases the locking may occur in the position of rotation in the hip bones adopted during pregnancy. This subluxation of the SI joint causes pain by unusual tension on the ligament and the reduction by forceable manipulation may be attempted.

http://icpa4kids.org/Chiropractic-Research/blocked-atlantal-nerve-syndrome-in-infants-and-small-children.html

From the abstract:   Three case reports are reviewed to illustrate a syndrome that has so far received far too little attention, which is caused and perpetuated in babies and infants by blocked nerve impulses at the atlas. Included in the clinical picture are lowered resistance to infections, especially to ear-,nose-, and throat infections, two cases of insomnia, two cases of cranial bone asymmetry, and one case each of torticollis, retarded locomotor development, retarded linguistic development, conjunctivitis, tonsillitis, rhinitis, earache, extreme neck sensitivity, incipient scoliosis, delayed hip development, and seizures.

Subluxation At Birth – The Effect

"Dr. G. Gutmann, a German medical researcher, however, discovered that over 80% of the infants he examined shortly after birth were suffering from injury to the cervical spine, the neck, causing all types of health problems."

"Dr. Abraham Towbin, from Harvard Medical School and the Department of Pathology, presented research at the Eighteenth Annual Meeting of the American Academy For Cerebral Palsy. In his research, he found that "the birth process, even under optimal conditions, is potentially a traumatic, crippling event for the fetus."
"Spinal cord and brain stem injuries occur often during the process of birth but frequently escape diagnosis." Dr. Towbin continues, "death may occur during delivery or, with respiratory function depressed, a short period after birth. Infants who survive the initial effects, may be left with severe nervous system defects."

Chiropractic in the 9th Month of Pregnancy

The 9th Month. William Sears, MD, Martha Sears, RN. Parenting, June/July 1997.

"As your baby descends into your pelvic cavity, you may feel sharp, stabbing pains at the base of your spine or in the middle of your pelvic bone, making it uncomfortable twinges of "pains and needles" in the cervix itself. Pain may radiate down your back or thighs. The increased pelvic aches and pains are likely due to the relaxation and stretching of your pelvic ligaments in preparation for labor. You can ease these discomforts by changing positions. Exercise gently each day; take long, slow walks or ride a stationary bike. If you cannot exercise without pain, consult your doctor. He or she may be able to recommend a chiropractor experienced in working on pregnant bodies, who may be able to give you some gentle pelvic adjustments to get your hips back in the balance. It is our personal theory that chiropractic care in pregnancy can held to avoid or relive back pain and also prepare your back and pelvic structures for the stresses of labor and delivery.

Inhibitory effect of breast milk on infectivity of live oral rotavirus vaccines.

How the billion pound formula industry hijacked breastfeeding

Without getting into the general health concerns.. just yet, it will be added once  I have the time..

Here's something to think about though!
  • From "The China Study"
Babies need breast milk but when they are prematurely weened
and switched over to cow’s milk. The undigested cow’s milk
proteins fragments are similar in cellular signal to the pancreatic
cells so the immune system cannot differentiate and
indiscriminately destroys both. This baby can no longer produce
insulin. Thus, a type 1 diabetic is created. Kids with a genetically
susceptible component that were weened onto cow milk showed
a 13.1x greater risk of Type 1 Diabetes. When results of multiple
studies are combined, kids who were weaned off breast milk and
fed cow’s milkk have 50-60% higher risk of type 1.

    • YOU pull the trigger...

Genes do not act alone, they need a trigger. In a set of twins, one twin can
have type 1 diabetes but the second twin only has a 13-33% chance of
    acquiring.

Association between breastfeeding and intelligence, educational attainment, and income at 30 years of age: a prospective birth cohort study from Brazil

Findings From June 4, 2012, to Feb 28, 2013, of the 5914 neonates enrolled, information about IQ and breastfeeding duration was available for 3493 participants. In the crude and adjusted analyses, the durations of total breastfeeding and predominant breastfeeding (breastfeeding as the main form of nutrition with some other foods) were positively associated with IQ, educational attainment, and income. We identifi ed dose-response associations with breastfeeding duration for IQ and educational attainment. In the confounder-adjusted analysis, participants who were breastfed for 12 months or more had higher IQ scores (diff erence of 3·76 points, 95% CI 2·20–5·33), more years of education (0·91 years, 0·42–1·40), and higher monthly incomes (341·0 Brazilian reals, 93·8–588·3) than did those who were breastfed for less than 1 month. The results of our mediation analysis suggested that IQ was responsible for 72% of the eff ect on income. Interpretation Breastfeeding is associated with improved performance in intelligence tests 30 years late

“What if governments had a proven, cost-effective way to save babies’ lives, reduce rates of malnutrition, support children’s health, increase educational attainment and grow productivity?

They do: It’s called breastfeeding. And it is one of the best investments nations can make in the lives and futures of their youngest members – and in the long-term strength of their societies.”

                          • "CONCLUSIONS:

The only two studies so far to have examined the relation between childhood cancer and intramuscular vitamin K have shown similar results, and the relation is biologically plausible. The prophylactic benefits against haemorrhagic disease are unlikely to exceed the potential adverse effects from intramuscular vitamin K. Since oral vitamin K has major benefits but no obvious adverse effects this could be the prophylaxis of choice."

the use of vitamin K vaccines is not without risk.

First, the vitamin K used in hospital vaccines is synthetic. Known generically as phytonadione, the compound is a far cry from what is found naturally in leafy greens and butter, and the amount typically injected is more than 100 times greater than the government's recommended daily allowance (RDA). Second, synthetic vitamin K can potentially lead to a child developing leukemia and other forms of cancer.

"The fact is that medical science still does not know that much about the metabolic fate of vitamin K," writes Sarah Pope on her blog, The Healthy Home Economist. "Little to no unmetabolized vitamin K shows up in urine or bile. This is disturbing given the fact that vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin and therefore has the potential to accumulate in body tissues."

"More disturbing is that the liver of a newborn does not begin to function until 3 or 4 days after birth. As a result, this little being has very limited to no ability to detoxify the large dose of synthetic vitamin K and all other the dangerous ingredients in the injection cocktail

                          Group B Strep

                          From dr. kerry kramer

lIf a woman with GBS is treated with antibiotics during labor, the risk of her infant developing an early GBS infection drops by 80%

lExample, her risk could drop from 1% down to to 0.2%. (Ohlsson 2013)
Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacterial infection that can be found in a pregnant woman’s vagina or rectum ,40% of healthy women have this.
Between 2000–2006; .04% of births were affected in the United States
Current policy remains to administer IV antibiotics. This should be done throughout the delivery and at least 4 hours prior to the birth of the baby
Antibiotics have a profound affect on the mother and infants digestive tract, immune system and breast milk
4.3 million babies were born in the US in 2007.  If the GBS policy was followed perfectly, up to 40% of these newborns were treated with antibiotics the first day of life.   1,720,00 Newborns

                          "Eye ointment"

Does your newborn need antibiotics dribbled into their eye at birth?

Do you know why eye ointment (Erythromycin) is given at birth?
It is offered because there were babies being born with ophthalmia neonatorum, which is a strain of pink eye caused by ghonnorea and chlamydia.
Pink eye.... we’re pre-treating every single baby for pink eye.
If mom doesn't have either of those, the ointment is basically pointless and nonbeneficial with potential of dangerous side effects...
Most expecting mothers are tested at their first prenatal appointment for either of the aforementioned STDs.
Did you know they also give it to C-Section babies that NEVER come in contact with their mother’s potential STD?
🛑 Risks of erythromycin: eye irritation, CLOGGED TEAR DUCTS, prevents oxygen from getting to baby's eyes, JAUNDICE, chemical conjunctivitis (pink eye), blurred vision that may interfere with bonding (super important in the first moments/hours), contributes to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, has a 20% failure rate, possibility of allergic reaction.
🛑 Risks of refusing erythromycin: should mother have an undetected STD then baby has possibility of developing TREATABLE pink eye.
Giving the ointment routinely contributes to over-prescription of antibiotics. This "just in case" medical routine is a reason why we have so many strains of resistant bacteria.
Many new moms have been told at the hospital that their child could go blind if they didn’t give their new baby the ointment.

                          • "Research on possible adverse effects from diagnostic use of ultrasound was identified from a previous systematic review (HPA 2010), and through a systematic search of the Embase and Ovid Medline databases, looking for relevant epidemiological studies and clinical case reports. Information was found concerning potential acute effects, longer term obstetric and developmental outcomes following use of ultrasound during pregnancy, and risk of childhood cancer after prenatal exposure to ultrasound.'
                          • Acute effects

"Possible acute effects that have been investigated include stimulation of foetal movements during the later stages of pregnancy (Fatemi et al. 2001); altered electroencephalographic (EEG) activity in neonates during and after ultrasound examination (Kohorn et al. 1967); erythrocyte fragility in women exposed to continuous ultrasound monitoring during labor (Bause et al. 1983); and structural changes in the brain (assessed by MRI) following insonation through the temporal bone (Schlachetzki et al. 2002). Adverse outcomes reported to follow ultrasound imaging of the liver (Piscaglia et al. 2006) and heart (van der Wouw et al. 2000) may have been a toxic effect of contrast agents (such as microbubbles with high echogenicity used to enhance the sonogram), and cannot be attributed to ultrasound exposure per se with certainty. They could also reflect an interaction between ultrasound and contrast agents. Study findings to date do not point clearly to any acute adverse effects of human exposure to diagnostic ultrasound, but further research on possible interactions with contrast agents would be useful."

"According to the United Nations, between 1990 and 2008, the global rate for maternal mortality decreased by 34%. During that same period however, the maternal mortality ratio -- that is, deaths per 100,000 live births -- nearly doubled within the United States, from 12 to 24. Despite spending more per birth than any other nation in the world, cumulatively over $50 billion annually, in recent studies of maternal mortality rates, the United States is ranked just 28th overall, behind countries like Kazakhstan and Montenegro."

Cesarean Section and Chronic Immune Disorders

                          • RESULTS: Children delivered by cesarean delivery had significantly increased risk of asthma, systemic connective tissue disorders, juvenile arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, immune deficiencies, and leukemia. No associations were found between cesarean delivery and type 1 diabetes, psoriasis, or celiac disease.
CONCLUSIONS: Cesarean delivery exemplifies a shared environmental risk factor in early life associating with several chronic immune diseases.

These baby foods and formulas tested positive for arsenic, lead and BPA in new study

After about 530 baby food products were tested, researchers found 65% of products tested positive for arsenic, 36% for lead, 58% for cadmium and 10% for acrylamide. All of these chemicals pose potential dangers to developing infants.
"Nearly 80% of infant formula samples tested positive for arsenic. The toxin is associated with developmental defects, cardiovascular disease, neurotoxicity, diabetes and even cancer, according to the World Health Organization. "

"Environmental Defense Fund found 20% of 2,164 baby food samples tested contained lead. No amount of lead is safe, but it's not regulated. "

This position is not favorable and often works against gravity prolonging the birth process.

Dr. Towbin referrers to this pulling as the “Normal axial pull” on the baby’s head during delivery. He found that it is common during hospital delivery that a child’s head will be pulled with

Too many women are leaving hospital after childbirth with PTSD because of bad care

"A new report has found that suicide is the biggest direct cause of death in the year following childbirth. Between 2009 and 2014, 111 pregnant women and new mothers took their own lives. These tragic cases are, however, only the tip of the mental health iceberg. About one in five women experiences mental health problems after childbirth – and one study found that 9 per cent of new mothers experience suicidal thoughts. While most people are aware of postnatal depression, few realise that between 10,000 and 20,000 women a year suffer, as Rachael did, with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)."

                          James Chestnut
ctic, and apparently pediatrics as well, in yet another absurdly biased, blatantly dogmatic article claiming chiropractors should not see children. The only way to get rid of the cockroaches of pseudoscience and dogma is to turn on the light of science and evidence and logic. Do babies have nociceptors and proprioceptors? Obviously, if you pinch them they feel pain and cry and they can move their limbs. Are the neuromusculoskeletal tissues of babies exposed to traumas during the birth process and afterwards? Of course. (Gottlieb, M. 1993 Neglected spinal cord, brain stem and musculoskeletal injuries stemming from birth trauma. Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics; Waddington et al. Incidence of Somatic Dysfunction in Healthy Newborns. 2015 J Am Osteopath Assoc; http://www.birthinjuryguide.org/birth-injury/statistics/ ) Are these tissues magically protected from trauma during vacuum extraction or forceps simply because the baby is still in the birth canal? Of course not, that is an absurd proposition. What would happen if you yanked on a baby's head with forceps or a vacuum extractor after it was born? Would this be seen as abusive and traumatic and as an obvious potential source of traumatic injury? Of course it would. The next question is, when such trauma does occur, which intervention should be used? Let's use torticollis as an example. What would a surgeon do? Well they do cut the SCM (sternocleidomastoid muscle). Nice. Evidence? None. Long term effects? Obviously. How about something "conservative" like those interventions offered by a general medical physician or pediatrician? What are the options offered for neuromusculoskeletal problems for babies? Same as adults. Drugs or referral for surgery or physiotherapy. Are these drugs proven safe? No studies of these drugs on children, proven side effects in adults. Are these drugs proven effective? Effective at what? Healing the tissues? Resolving the biomechanical or neuromuscular dysfunction? No chance. Shutting the baby up? Sometimes - temporarily. Do these drugs have adverse effects? Of course. They also inject botox. Nice. What about referral for physiotherapy? Well what is the evidence for physical therapy for adults? How many randomized controlled placebo trials are there for physiotherapy interventions for adults never mind children? Perhaps you should review the 2008 Volume 8 issue of The Spine Journal which published reviews on every available intervention option for chronic low back pain. What profession has the best evidence for resolving neuromuscoskeletal function? Surprise. Chiropractic. See the Manga Report or Von Heymann et al. 2013 in Spine or Cifluentes et all 2011 in Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine or Legorreta et al. 2004 Archives of Internal Medicine or Hidalgo et al. 2014 Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy or Bishop et al. 2010 The Spine Journal just for a start. Notice that the debate from these cockroaches is never about science or evidence - they NEVER quote the literature. Whether it is Friends in Science in Medicine or the Pediatrician from Melbourne who deceitfully claimed that a baby's neck was broken by a chiropractor, or the head of the Australian Medical Association who demanded chiropractors stop seeing children, or this latest surgeon, note that NONE of their accusations, demands, or statements EVER include a comparison of the available evidence for the effectiveness or safety of chiropractic vs drugs or surgery or physiotherapy. When you have evidence you pound the evidence. When you don't have evidence you pound your credentials and/or cultural authority, when your cultural authority begins to erode from the evidence coming to light that does not support your position you pound dogma in order to smear those you are trying to discredit. Chiropractors I have two requests. One, make sure you don't make false claims. Validly assess spines and intervene with the most evidence-based intervention there is to restore spinal motion (which is the foundation of neuromusculoskeletal function) - a chiropractic adjustment. Two, turn the light of science on so these cockroaches will scatter. Don't let these people demand evidence without providing evidence for what they claim. Demand a comparison of the available evidence and logic for all available options - don't let these people get away with the presupposition that every option other than chiropractic is proven safe, effective, and/or cost-effective. The boot of science and logic and ethics will always have the power to squish the cockroaches of pseudoscience, dogma, and immorality. What we need is a public that is MORE demanding of evidence not less. What we need are politicians MORE demanding of evidence not less. What we need is healthcare based on MORE evidence not less. Mostly what we need is to find ethical practitioners from all professions who are willing to work together in the best interest of the patient. Where are the voices of all the ethical medical doctors in this debate? Why are the medical doctors who regularly refer to chiropractors not speaking up? Perhaps they fear reprisal. I understand, I just find it sad. Cockroaches be gone - let us know when you want to compare evidence. Perhaps you might consider that EVERY independent government inquiry, government commissioned independent report, and even court case to date (New Zealand, Australia, United States, Canada, U.K., Sweden) has concluded that chiropractic is an evidence-based legitimate healthcare profession that is safe, effective, and cost effective and recommended licensure and/or government funding and/or found in favor of chiropractic. Every attempt by medical associations to claim otherwise has been dismissed as lacking evidence. Every time the ability to replace the necessity of evidence with cultural authority and dogma is removed by rules of an unbiased judge or panel in an inquiry, chiropractic is vindicated. It is only in the press and in areas where the light of evidence cannot shine that cockroaches thrive.

                          From Dr. Charles Majors:

Lets talk about toxicity. Just one of the many CAUSES

When children are born they come through the mother. They are their mother’s child, which means they inherit all of the the toxins the mother has accumulated. All the toxins are absorbed by the babies.
Research shows that Scientists have found 287 toxins in the umbilical cord blood of new born babies.
*134 of these toxins cause Cancer
*158 are toxic to the brain and nervous system
                          *186 cause infertility
*151 cause cause birth defects or abnormal development
A fetus begins as one cell and then it starts to develop into many. Now, if there are toxins in there and those toxins are cancer causing – and the cells divide and multiply, then they will already – in the primary state of development – cause so much damage that it’s no wonder that we have children today with brain tumors, massive sarcomas and many other Cancers by the age of two.
It’s not because there’s something wrong with those babies, it’s because for generation after generation we have caused more damage to our DNA with our plastic, toxic lifestyles, toxic foods, toxic products, etc.

                          • "Simply put, from age birth to three, your child’s brain produces 700 new neural connections every second."
                          • "Instead asking questions, meet your child exactly where they are in that moment. Girl scout’s honor. For real. Skip the questions. Toddlers don’t understand WHY they feel the way they do. They just feel it, and they gotta get it all out there."
